Eleven schools in the Kent School District were given recognition by King County for their successful conservation practices from the county\u2019s Green Schools Program.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The program has served a growing number of schools each year, with 100 schools participating in 2009-10, 120 in 2010-11, and 154 in 2011-12. The program has three levels which involve students and staff in learning about and practicing conservation of natural resources.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

All Kent District schools have completed Level One and Level Two, and Kent-Meridian High School completed Level Three.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The schools that completed Level One were Cedar Valley Elementary School, Covington Elementary School, Daniel Elementary School, East Hill Elementary School (also completed Level Two requirements in 2011-12), Fairwood Elementary School, Kentlake High School, Meadow Ridge Elementary School, Meeker Middle School, Meridian Middle School, Millennium Elementary School and Ridgewood Elementary School.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The schools that completed Level Two were Crestwood Elementary School, East Hill Elementary School and Soos Creek Elementary School.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The award-winning King County Green Schools Program provides hands-on assistance, recycling containers and stickers, and the ongoing support schools need to engage students and staff in conservation actions.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Simple steps, such as turning off lights in unoccupied rooms and recycling paper, bottles and cans, add up to big benefits.In addition to providing schools with the hands-on help they need, the Green Schools Program offers a website, www.kingcounty.gov\/GreenSchools, with helpful tools and resources.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

King County also provides an elementary school assembly program, classroom workshops and support for student green teams.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
