Three Kent Police officers were treated and released at Valley Medical Center in Renton after each suffered minor injuries during a foot pursuit and struggle with a suspect Monday on the East Hill.

Officers responded at about 4:15 p.m. to the Mosaic Hills Apartments in the 10800 block of Southeast 239th Place for a call about a suspicious man taking wheels off a vehicle, said Kent Police spokeswoman Melanie Robinson in a Tuesday email.

“As they were trying to identify the male he took off on foot and a foot pursuit ensued,” Robinson said. “Officers were able to tackle the male to the ground where the suspect continued to struggle and tried to get free. Due to the impact during the tackle, one of the officers was momentarily knocked unconscious.”

Officers tended to the down officer while others held the suspect in place until additional officers arrived.

Police arrested a 29-year-old man for investigation of obstructing an officer, making false statements and possession of drug paraphernalia, Robinson said. Officers transported the man to the city jail.

“Three officers were evaluated at Valley Medical Center, thankfully all of them were cleared and are doing well,” Robinson said.
