The Kentridge Chargers are rolling into regular practices after attending the South Sound Football Camp at Fife High School in June, where the team worked on developing cohesion and learning plays.

According to coach Marty Osborn, the team’s greatest strengths are its attitude, work ethic, and speed. Osborn has leveraged that speed into a fast multiple I offense. While Osborn says that a more experienced quarterback can adapt to spread offenses or more complex formations, the Chargers will rely on a more stable multiple for the flexibility of plays.

“I think we have a lot of good running backs,” said Osborn, “so multiple I will get them running plays, but not put as much pressure on the quarterback.”

As for the Charger defense, many of the linebackers are new with two defensive starters returning, but Osborne believes they’ll be capable of handling the opposition this year.

Osborn says the team’s leadership has been solid as well, including junior linebacker Braiden Beckman and “even though they’re underclassmen, they’re improving and coming along,” he said.

The team still has improvements to make, however. Among them are tightening up the offensive game, which resulted in a number one turnover ratio in the league during last year’s season. Osborn has made offensive drills a priority to get the offense at its highest capacity.

After a 2-8 overall record in 2012, Osborne says that he feels confident in the Charger’s abilities this year.

“I feel good, I feel like we’ll put last year in our rear view mirror and look forward,” he said.
