The State Patrol is seeking information from anyone who might have been in the area of State Route 509 near Burien and SeaTac when four vehicles were struck by gunshots along the highway.

Detectives are asking for individuals that may have been in the area before or after this event that occurred at 1:42 p.m. on Wednesday to include the surrounding surface streets, according to a State Patrol media release on Thursday. Investigators want to know if anyone saw a car speeding away or an individual running or acting suspiciously in or around the area.

The State Patrol also would like to look at any dashcam video that may be of value. Anyone with information can contact Detective Brody Ford at 425-401-7742 or by email at brody.ford@wsp.wa.gov.

On Wednesday, people began calling 911 stating that their vehicles had been struck by gunfire. This occurred southbound SR 509 between South 160th Street and Des Moines Memorial Drive.

The first responding troopers arrived several minutes after the first call and confirmed that four vehicles were struck and also that no occupants of the vehicles had sustained injuries. A general area where the shots came from was also established and SR 509 was closed immediately between South 160th and Des Moines Memorial Drive.

By this time, multiple resources were responding to the area to include the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) helicopter (Guardian One), KCSO deputies, KCSO SWAT, WSP Aviation, several WSP Explosive Detection K-9s, Homeland Security K-9s and multiple troopers.

Guardian One, WSP Aviation and SWAT thoroughly searched the area and determined whoever had fired the shots was no longer in the area. Southbound SR 509 was reopened at approximately 7 p.m. along with lane 2 of the northbound lanes. Lane 1 of the northbound lanes remained closed for multiple Explosive Detection K-9s to do a grid search in an effort to recover evidence from the crime scene.

The K-9s along with WSP detectives and troopers performed a grid search of the area for approximately two hours which yielded nothing of evidentiary value. The scene was completely clear just before 9 p.m.

Detectives returned Thursday to the scene with metal detectors and canvassed the area once again and were unable to find any evidence of the crime. Detectives will also be talking to residents and businesses in the area in an attempt to find any security footage and information that can assist them in the investigation.
