{"id":34940,"date":"2018-05-31T14:51:00","date_gmt":"2018-05-31T21:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/taking-the-wheel\/"},"modified":"2018-05-31T14:56:54","modified_gmt":"2018-05-31T21:56:54","slug":"taking-the-wheel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/taking-the-wheel\/","title":{"rendered":"Taking the wheel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many people, including numerous children and teens, attended the annual City of Kent Public Works Day on Thursday at the accesso ShoWare Center.<\/p>\n<p>The event featured demonstrations that crews perform daily, including keeping drinking water safe, paving Kent streets, filling potholes, trimming trees and more.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to hands-on activities and educational displays, event participants found out about careers in the trades and had the opportunity to climb on some of the Public Works equipment including a backhoe, mower, asphalt roller, excavator and snowplow.
