The JBA is sponsored by Big Baller Brand, the company of LaVar Ball, father of Los Angeles Lakers player Lonza Ball and LaMelo Ball. LaMelo Ball will play in the new league for Los Angeles. LaMela Ball verbally committed to play at UCLA but didn’t sign with the school.

The JBA is a professional league, planned to be composed of eight teams. Considered the first junior professional basketball league in the world, it is designed as an alternative to the NCAA and to allow top high school prospects to immediately play professionally. The league was first announced in December by LaVar Ball, and it will be completely funded by Ball’s sports apparel company Big Baller Brand. The inaugural JBA season will begin on June 21 and end in August.

Players are ages 17 to 19 who have graduated from high school but don’t want to go to college.
