The Kent Area PTSA Council held its annual awards dinner at the Kent Event Center on May 11.<\/p>\n
Award winners from Kent School District schools were honored and awards were presented to volunteers, educators, advocates and community members.<\/p>\n
More than 220 guests were in attendance and more than $7,500 was raised through auctions to fund scholarships for KSD seniors, Janine Weber, senior vice president of the council, wrote in an email.<\/p>\n
A donation was made by the council to the Washington State PTA scholarship fund in the name of each winner, she wrote.<\/p>\n
The award winners are:<\/p>\n
• Lisa Pevey from Jenkins Creek Elementary and Cedar Heights Middle School received the Golden Acorn for her service to all children and youth<\/p>\n
• Dee Booth Klem from Communities in Schools Kent received the Outstanding Advocate award for continued and dedicated service<\/p>\n
• Kentridge Robotics Clue was honored with Outstanding Student Advocate for its commitment to improving education for all students<\/p>\n
• Mark Moehring and the Wear a Big Smile Foundation received the Spirit of the Community award<\/p>\n
• Michael Carney, sixth grade teacher at Scenic Hill Elementary, was named Outstanding Educator for going beyond normal expectations of the job<\/p>\n
• Liliana Philipps from Jenkins Creek Elementary and Cedar Heights Middle School received an award for Outstanding Service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
