This summer get them out of the house and keep them active while enjoying time with friends at the city of Kent&rsquo;s summer day camp, Camp Walkapala.<\/p>\n<p>Registration is open online at <a href=\"https:\/\/webreg.kentwa.gov\/Start\/Start.asp\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"link\">WebReg.KentWA.gov<\/a> or call 253-856-5030.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;New experiences will be happening this summer at Camp Walkapala where K-sixth graders will get to participate in hands-on S.T.E.A.M. (Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics) projects and encouraged to analyze, ask thoughtful questions, test their knowledge and problem solve, all while having fun,&rdquo; said Maureen McCaughan, parks program coordinator. &ldquo;This new component will keep their minds active and engaged as they get creative and think outside the box to work through the daily challenges together.&ldquo;<\/p>\n<p>Camp Walkapala and its variety of sports, arts and crafts and field trips designed especially for K-sixth graders are every weekday from June 27 until Aug. 17 at East Hill Elementary from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The camp also offers a Counselor In Training program for teens going into seventh, eighth or ninth grades who are interested in acquiring the skills necessary to become a counselor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Camp Walkapala Schedule:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Week 1 June 27-29: Movie &ldquo;The Incredibles 2&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Week 2 July 2-6:* Field Trip: Museum of Flight<\/p>\n<p>*No camp July 4<\/p>\n<p>Week 3 July 9-13: Field Trip: Point Defiance Zoo<\/p>\n<p>Week 4 July 16-20: Field Trip: Stewart Heights Pool<\/p>\n<p>Week 5 July 23-27: Field Trip: Pioneer Farms<\/p>\n<p>Week 6 July 30-Aug. 3: Field Trip: Lake Meridian BBQ<\/p>\n<p>Week 7 Aug. 6-10: Field Trip: Tacoma Rainiers<\/p>\n<p>Week 8 Aug. 13-17: Field Trip: Kandle Wave Pool<\/p>\n<p>Fees range from $99 to $165 per week, depending on the number of days of camp in the week. All weekly camp fees include all activities, field trips, a camp T-shirt, and snacks and lunch provided by the Kent School District.
