The deal is done.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The youth boxing program, Kent East Hill Kids (Police Action League<\/a>) Boxing Club, is officially off the ground and running.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Leslie Hamada, executive director of the boxing program and Kent Parks, Recreation and Community Services<\/a> Director Jeff Watling signed the documents at City Hall June 30 setting up the program at the Kent Phoenix Academy facility.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u201cI am thrilled we can start this partnership with the city and school district,\u201d Hamada said. \u201cThe best thing is the kids are going to benefit from this. I am thrilled after all this time we can do this.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Watling said. \u201cWe have been looking for ways to expand services. We see this as a partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Councilman Dennis Higgins attended the signing and stated, \u201cEveryone got together and saw the value and found a way to make it happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The city already operates community recreations programs out of the academy. The Kent School District and the city signed an agreement in 2007, allowing the city to use part of the academy as a community center.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
