{"id":33961,"date":"2018-04-09T11:35:00","date_gmt":"2018-04-09T18:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/kent-police-investigate-near-drowning-of-young-girl\/"},"modified":"2018-04-09T13:16:01","modified_gmt":"2018-04-09T20:16:01","slug":"kent-police-investigate-near-drowning-of-young-girl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/kent-police-investigate-near-drowning-of-young-girl\/","title":{"rendered":"Kent Police investigate near drowning of 2-year-old girl | Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Paramedics transported a 2-year-old girl in critical condition to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after she was found face down in a pond Sunday afternoon near a Kent apartment complex in the <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/JYzuKcf3NNQ2\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"map\">23600 block of Lakeside Boulevard East<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The family of the girl was celebrating her birthday at the rec center at Waterford at the Lakes, said Kent Police spokeswoman Melanie Robinson in an email Monday. Many family members and children were present.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Family noticed the victim was no longer in the rec center and when they searched the immediate area they discovered her face down in the large pond behind the rec center area at the corner of 236th and Lakeside Boulevard East,&rdquo; Robinson said.<\/p>\n<p>The girl has been transferred to Seattle Children&rsquo;s Hospital and remained unconscious Monday, according to hospital officials, Robinson said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It is unknown what the long term impacts will be,&rdquo; Robinson said.<\/p>\n<p>The first call to 911 came in at about 4:10 p.m. Officers arrived and began chest compressions on the child, who was in cardiac arrest, according to a Puget Sound Fire news release.<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters took over CPR and continued for about 45 minutes when they believe they may have gotten a very faint pulse, Robinson said.
