What started out as a report of an unwanted subject at the McDonald’s along West Meeker Street turned into much more for Kent Police when a man began to walk in and out of traffic.

Drivers had to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting the man at about 7:50 p.m. March 10 in the 1200 block of West Meeker Street, according to the police report. Two officers struggled to pull the man out of the street as he resisted their orders to get off the road.

Two bystanders near the scene ran over to help police hold the man down on the sidewalk. Officers were finally able to handcuff the man. The bystanders walked away after more officers arrived to assist.

The incident began when a McDonald’s employee called 911 to report a man inside the store who refused to leave. The employee said the man appeared to be high or drunk and had drug paraphernalia on the table next to him. When officers arrived, they found the man had walked across the parking lot to the Burger King.

Police got the man to leave Burger King, but then he started to walk in to traffic along West Meeker Street.

Officers arrested the man for investigation of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers reportedly found a small bag of crystal meth in the man’s possession. Police also banned the man for life from McDonald’s and Burger King at the request of store managers. If the man returns to the stores, he can be arrested for trespassing.

The man declined to talk to police.

Police arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly put his hand on his girlfriend’s adult daughter’s throat and shoved her at about 3 p.m. March 9 in the driveway of a home in the 21800 block of 121st Place Southeast.

The man allegedly was upset that the daughter had brought her boyfriend inside of his home, according to the police report. The dispute continued in the driveway of the home.

The man told officers he was tired of the disrespect shown by his girlfriend’s daughter. He said he pushed her because she got in his face. He added he didn’t think he should go to jail for defending his honor.

A witness to the incident had a cellphone video of the dispute. Officers watched the video and saw the man shove the woman.

Man breaks pictures at home

Officers arrested a man for investigation of third-degree malicious mischief after he reportedly broke several picture frames hanging on a wall at his mother’s home in the 21100 block of 124th Avenue Southeast.

The incident occurred at about 12:23 a.m. March 10 at the same home where an officer had shown up for a similar incident two days earlier, according to the police report. Officers were unable to locate the man after the first incident.

Police noted that there were damaged picture frames that had been thrown against a wall.

The man told officers, “Yeah I broke some pictures. I was mad. It’s no big deal. No one was hurt.”

Man indicates he has gun

Police arrested a man for investigation of harassment, third-degree theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after he allegedly indicated he had a gun and stole tuna packets at about 9:35 p.m. March 11 at Alpha XR, 25606 104th Ave. SE.

The man reportedly stuck his hand in his pocket and acted like he had a gun after an employee approached him about putting store items into his pockets, according to the police report.

The man then walked out of the store and used his finger and hand as a gun as he went past another employee. Police found the man near the store walking eastbound on Southeast Kent Kangley Road and eating tuna out of a bag. The man had a cap pistol in his pocket as well as tin foil with burnt residue.

When asked about the incident by officers, the man denied taking tuna or threatening anyone with a gun.
