“We have completed our search and have not located any injuries or indications of a shooting,” according to a Kent Police Twitter post at about 11:52 a.m.

Des Moines Police sent out a media release Friday afternoon that it received multiple reports of shots fired at about 8:52 a.m. at the college, 2400 S. 240th St.

“Initially there were conflicting reports as to the exact location of the reported shots on the campus,” according to the release. “The entire campus was put into lockdown at 8:57 a.m.”

Police agencies then responded to the campus.

“First responders from multiple law enforcement agencies, federal and state agencies and fire and emergency medical service personnel responded to the call,” according to the release. “The first officers arriving at the campus did an initial sweep of the campus and did not locate a shooter, any victims or any evidence of a shooting. SWAT units from multiple agencies searched every building on the campus to look for any potential victims. The lockdown was lifted at about 11:45 a.m.”

School officials posted on the Highline College Facebook page what students and staff should do.

“Remain in lockdown – This is not a drill. Police are responding and evacuating buildings. Remain in lockdown position. We will update you as further details become available. This is an unfolding situation.”

Des Moines Police will continue to investigate the incident and has asked for the public’s help. Anyone who was on campus and saw or heard anything is asked to contact the Des Moines Police Department at 206-878-3301.
