{"id":3293,"date":"2015-04-16T13:15:32","date_gmt":"2015-04-16T20:15:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/kent-schools-win-states-highest-honor\/"},"modified":"2016-10-23T04:45:26","modified_gmt":"2016-10-23T11:45:26","slug":"kent-schools-win-states-highest-honor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/kent-schools-win-states-highest-honor\/","title":{"rendered":"Kent schools win state&#8217;s highest honor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>Thirteen schools in the Kent School District have been awarded 2014 Washington Achievement Awards.\u00a0Martin Sortun Elementary, won three awards, including one for overall excellence.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The Washington Achievement Award is sponsored by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education. Award winners are selected based on indexes and data the state collects from standardized tests in several categories.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Schools that received recognition in reading growth were Carriage Crest, Glenridge, Grass Lake, Horizon, Martin Sortun and Sawyer Woods elementary schools.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Schools that received recognition in English language acquisition were Sunrise Elementary, Meridian Middle School, and Kent-Meridian and Kentridge high schools.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Covington and Martin Sortun elementary schools received recognition for math growth, and Kent Mountain View Academy and Mattson Middle School both received the award for high progress.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The Washington Achievement Award recipients are the highest performing schools in the state based on three years of academic information as reported in the Washington Achievement Index. The index was approved for use in 2014 by the State Board of Education. A total of 401 schools earned Washington Achievement Awards in 2014.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The award-winning schools will be honored during an award ceremony on April 28 at Spanaway Lake High School in the Bethel School District.
