Tapestry Dance Company brings a multi-media tap dance show to Kent’s Spotlight Series at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, at the Kentwood High School Performing Arts Center, 25800 164th Ave. SE, in Covington.

The company’s “Passing It Forward” show takes a diverse and dynamic look at “The American Dream,” and how individuals navigate through the complexities of race, culture, gender identity and equal rights.

“Through historical traditions and new works of tap dance set to video and a diverse musical score of spoken word poetry, hip-hop, jazz and American classics, we set a rhythm of communication, hope and healing,” said the show’s Artistic Director Acia Gray in a city media release.

Tapestry was founded in Austin, Texas in 1989. Over nearly three decades, the company has premiered 165 original works, toured 25 states and three countries and proudly stands as the only full-time professional multi-form dance company that specializes in tap dance in North America.

Two local performing groups will join Tapestry as guest performers: Sudanese Dance Group and African Sisters choir.
