Boyce is the first council member in at least a dozen years or more to serve more than two years as president. The president works closely with the mayor to set meeting agendas and speaks for the council as a whole. The president also represents the city as Mayor Pro Tem in the mayor&rsquo;s absence.<\/p>\n<p>The committees deal with many issues before the measures go to the full seven-member council.<\/p>\n<p>Boyce announced the committee assignments at the Jan. 2 meeting:<\/p>\n<p>&#8226; <strong>Economic and Community Development<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chair: Boyce. Members: Tina Budell, Satwinder Kaur.<\/p>\n<p>&#8226; <strong>Operations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chair: Les Thomas. Members: Boyce, Dennis Higgins.<\/p>\n<p>&#8226; <strong>Parks and Human Services<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chair: Brenda Fincher. Members: Kaur, Budell.<\/p>\n<p>&#8226; <strong>Public Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chair: Toni Troutner. Members: Thomas, Boyce.<\/p>\n<p>&#8226; <strong>Public Works<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chair: Higgins.
