{"id":3226,"date":"2014-01-24T15:45:43","date_gmt":"2014-01-24T23:45:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/public-workshops-to-help-determine-funding-for-kent-parks\/"},"modified":"2016-10-23T05:35:29","modified_gmt":"2016-10-23T12:35:29","slug":"public-workshops-to-help-determine-funding-for-kent-parks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/public-workshops-to-help-determine-funding-for-kent-parks\/","title":{"rendered":"Public workshops to help determine funding for Kent parks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>Kent Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is providing residents an opportunity to directly influence how the parks department allocates public money to its many programs and activities.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Kent Parks and <a title=\"play\" href=\"http:\/\/greenplayllc.com\/\" target=\"_self\">GreenPlay<\/a>, a Colorado-based parks and recreation consultant, will host six workshops on Jan. 28-29 to provide residents a chance to weigh in on the direct public benefit of Kent Parks\u2019 services, facilities and programs.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The Kent City Council in October approved a $33,950 contract with GreenPlay on a 4-1 vote to help find out what programs the parks department should offer and at what cost.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>GreenPlay will provide a short explanation of The Pyramid Methodology, after which workshop attendees will help group services so that those delivering the greatest public benefit receive the most public funding.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Parks Director Jeff Watling said the workshops will assist in the development of a cost recovery model and resource allocation philosophy.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cThe model will be a critical component of our planning and budgeting process to ensure Kent Parks\u2019 sustainable financial future,&#8221; Watling said. &#8220;I hope our parks users will participate in this process. It\u2019s the public\u2019s chance to help shape and improve the quality of life in our community for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p><strong>Workshop schedule:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Tues., Jan. 28, Kent Commons, Crystal Mt.
