{"id":3183,"date":"2012-05-09T14:32:10","date_gmt":"2012-05-09T21:32:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/kent-resident-receives-college-honors\/"},"modified":"2016-10-22T13:10:40","modified_gmt":"2016-10-22T20:10:40","slug":"kent-resident-receives-college-honors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/kent-resident-receives-college-honors\/","title":{"rendered":"Kent resident receives college honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>Kent resident Laryssa Smith received an academic award at Saint Martin\u2019s University\u2019s Student Scholars Day and Honors Convocation.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The day included student presentations throughout the afternoon and an awards ceremony followed by a reception.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The annual celebration was started in 2000 by former Saint Martin\u2019s faculty member Doug Ford, in memory of his mother, Grace Riddell Ford, a talented chemist, metallurgist and teacher. The day is set aside and the University suspends classes to honor the significant scholarly and artistic accomplishments of the University\u2019s students.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Smith took home the Rosalind Elsie Franklin Award.
