Kent School District board member Agda Burchard has ended her service as district director Position 4 to begin a new position with the Puget Sound Education Service District board beginning in January.

Newly elected board member Denise Daniels, who defeated Bryon Madsen in the Nov. 7 general election, will be representing Position 4.

Burchard, the incumbent, lost the Aug. 1 primary election to challengers Daniels and Madsen.

Burchard was appointed to the board in June 2012 to fill a vacancy left by Bill Boyce who resigned to focus on his responsibilities as a Kent City Council member. She was elected to a four-year-term in 2013.

Board President Maya Vengadasalam praised Burchard for her efforts.

“It takes a lot of work to be on the school board along with the amount of time we spend away from our families. Agda has been a tireless supporter of our district and community and will still be involved in our schools,” Vengadasalam said.

In Burchard’s six years with the district, she has served as the legislative representative and organized student leadership trips to the state capitol in Olympia each year. She has served on district committees, including Strategic Planning and Family and Consumer Science/Culinary Arts. She has served on several Citizen’s for Kent Schools bond and levy committees and was president and legislative chair for the Kent Area Council PTA.

At her last board meeting, Burchard reminded the district that she will still be around, serving Kent, Renton and some of the Seattle area in her new PSESD board position.
