A dozen Rainier Youth Choirs members have been accepted to sing in two honor choirs as part of the NW American Choral Directors Association conference in Portland, Ore., on March 7-10.<\/p>\n
Hundreds of singers from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming strive to be included in these prestigious ensembles.<\/p>\n
Ten of the students were chosen for the Intermediate Honor Choir for grades 5-7, directed by Dr. Angela Broeker the director of choral activities at the University of St. Thomas. The students chosen for this group are: Alaina Barnhart (Rainier Middle School), Autumn Chociej (Terminal Park Elementary), Olivia Duskin (All Saints Catholic, Puyallup), Astrid Forsythe (Grass Lake Elementary), Carter Hickok (Meeker Middle School), Olivia Johnson (Meeker Middle School), Bernice McKee (WA Connections Academy), Ryan Monsen (Ilalko Elementary), Eleanor Robinett (Meridian Middle School) and Stina Rude (Maple View Middle School).<\/p>\n
Two of the students were selected in a difficult, blind audition to be part of the Junior High\/Middle School Honor Choir for grades 7-9, directed by Dr. Patrick Freer of Georgia State University. The students selected for this group are: Macy Hirota (Meridian Middle School) and Michael Graham (Cedar Heights Middle School).<\/p>\n
Rainier Youth Choirs is a nonprofit community organization with no religious affiliation that offers choral experiences for grades 2 and up.<\/p>\n
