Winds from the south could hit 20 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph during Monday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

A high wind warning is in effect for Kent, King County and along the Interstate 5 corridor from Lewis County to Snohomish County until 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13.

Downed power lines can cause power outages lasting a couple of hours or longer. Secure loose outdoor objects or light-weight furniture before the potentially damaging winds arrive.

King County emergency officials issued the following statement:

• Give yourself extra time on your evening commute

• Watch for and avoid downed power lines

• Treat dark intersections as a 4-way stop

• Power outage/Carbon monoxide warning: don’t use a grill or generator indoors.
