I have been watching the election for mayor and have been pleasantly surprised at how professional the candidates have been.<\/p>\n
They both seem to care more about our city and leadership and what is best for the community than degrading the mayoral race with lies and negativity. That was until I saw the mail last week.<\/p>\n
I am incredibly disappointed at candidate Dana Ralph’s latest flyer to hit the mailboxes of Kent, and I contacted Jim Berrios about his record and her claims. What I learned was appalling. The flyer spins the truth.<\/p>\n
Apparently, in the last few weeks of this campaign, candidate Ralph has gotten desperate and gone negative. This is such a disappointment and apparently just the tip of the iceberg regarding her and her team’s negative tactics in this campaign. I can only hope that voters realize that the mailer sent out is a further reflection of a lack of integrity and honesty.<\/p>\n
Having followed Jim Berrios’ political career for several years, I see that he leads by example and isn’t afraid to roll up his sleeves and do the hard work. From his service to others – choosing to serve those in need for almost two decades, over profits for his restaurant on Thanksgiving, to watching his thought process on difficult decision as a councilmember, I know him to be thorough, honest and considerate in making decisions.<\/p>\n
I also know Jim to be professional and direct with his communication. He might not always agree with you but he will listen and learn. When Jim sees a problem, he gets the job done. Which is why he pushed for the formation of the Financial Sustainability Task Force, of which I was one of several volunteers, so that the city could hear from members in the community about service priorities, instead of relying on the pressures of interest groups.<\/p>\n
There is no need for the nastiness and dishonesty coming out of Ralph’s campaign, and we need to be concerned that this is how her City Hall would operate. A vote for Jim Berrios is a vote for honesty, transparency and collaboration.<\/p>\n
