For the Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliarist Michael Sealfon was a recent recipient of a prestigious award.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Kent man, a 14-year auxiliary member serving with the 70-member Seattle-Elliott Bay Flotilla 24, received the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Recreational Boating Safety Device. Sealfon was awarded for two consecutive years of superior performance in conducting 240 combined hours of vessel safety exams, marine dealer visits and participating in recreational boating public affair events.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Seattle-Elliott Bay Flotilla 24 conducts the highly popular Alki Point lighthouse tours during the summer season.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Sealfon, the District 13 staff officer for public affairs, previously was awarded the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Achievement Award, the Commandant’s Auxiliary Letter of Commendation, and Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation. He was also an Auxiliary Air instructor pilot.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Auxiliary, established in 1939, is the uniformed volunteer component of the Coast Guard. Members are primarily responsible for recreational boating safety and supporting the Active Duty Coast Guard in operations not requiring law enforcement actions. Auxiliary members train to the same exacting standards as their active-duty counterparts.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Sealfon, a 23-year Kent resident, retired from Labcorp and was the technical director for the Kent laboratory. He is a member of the Kent American Legion Post 15, and Kent Communications Support Team.
