I have had the privilege of knowing Jim Berrios for over 15 years. I grew up with the Berrios family and received my first job at 16 years old at the Golden Steer restaurant.

As a young teenager, Jim and Suzanne taught me the value of punctuality, hard work and the ability to easily converse with customers. These are skills that I have carried with me into my adult life, and I thank them for taking the time to teach me those traits.

Throughout the years I have seen how many wonderful people they have hired and taught these very same traits that you cannot gather from just any employer. Now in my career, I find myself going to Jim for professional advice and guidance. He leads by example.

Jim is a dedicated man, to his family, friends, his business, his church and community. I have gained so much by being a part of this amazing family.

Last year I volunteered for their Thanksgiving feed at their restaurant that they hold every year to give back to the community. It was one of the best experiences of my life to see how engaged Jim and his family were with everyone who stepped through the door. Not one person was turned away. And even those that showed late, he pulled up a chair and asked them to join us while we had our Thanksgiving dinner together.

Jim Berrios is knowledgeable, successful, community orientated but most of all, he is compassionate. That is the strong foundation for a leader and for your next mayor of Kent.
