I would like to bring to everyone’s attention to the speeding issue we have on 124th Avenue Southeast. Some of us tried to tackle this problem about 10-12 years ago and really got nowhere. Lately, it has raised its ugly head, and the speeding issue has increased.

For years we have not been able to enjoy the nice weather in the evenings or sleep with our windows open due to the noise of speeding vehicles. It doesn’t even matter if school is “in” or not. Speeding occurs.

Fed up again, I wrote to the governor, the mayor of Kent, my congressman/women, the Kent Police chief, public transportation, the King County Sheriff’s Department, my legislative representatives and anyone else I could find on the government website list.

Police did put a radar traffic sign out for 10 days, and then I saw an unmarked police car for a couple of hours shortly thereafter. It actually gave me some hope for a while, but, as expected, the bottom line is nothing will be done, and we have to fend for ourselves.

At this point, I have made a lot of suggestions: speed hump (not bump), rumble strip, stop sign, unmarked police cars to give out tickets (that alone would pay a policeman’s salary for a year). All my suggestions have been politely countered and denied.

After we were incorporated into Kent, we have less police visibility than before. We pay high taxes, and I’m not seeing where my money is going. I don’t care what is done, but something needs to be done and again, officials would agree if they live there.

With that said, I am going to start a petition and encourage all who live in the area to write your own letter of complaint with suggestions of improvement.
