{"id":30240,"date":"2017-09-01T13:58:00","date_gmt":"2017-09-01T20:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/fire-displaces-four-people-on-kents-east-hill\/"},"modified":"2017-09-01T15:36:04","modified_gmt":"2017-09-01T22:36:04","slug":"fire-displaces-four-people-on-kents-east-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/fire-displaces-four-people-on-kents-east-hill\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire displaces four people on Kent&#8217;s East Hill | Update: discarded cigarette ignited deck"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four people were displaced after a patio fire extended into the attic space of their Kent home Friday in the 23700 block of 160th Avenue Southeast.<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters from the Puget Sound and Maple Valley fire departments reported seeing the fire&rsquo;s glow from several blocks away while responding at 1:13 a.m. When they arrived on scene, they found fire coming from the back and roof of the two-story home, according to a Puget Sound Fire media release.<\/p>\n<p>The single occupant home at the time of the fire got out safely. There were no reported injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Fire investigators determined a discarded cigarette caused the fire. The resulting fire burned the deck before spreading into the attic space through the bird blocking. Investigators consider the cause accidental.<\/p>\n<p>This fire required firefighters to lay over 1,000 feet of large diameter fire hose down a long private road and driveway.
