Judy Huntington, a Kent resident, was awarded the annual Shining Star Award by the King County Nurses Association at its annual Meeting & Spring Banquet on May 11 (during National Nurses Week).

Huntington is executive director of the Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA), a position she assumed in January 1999 following nearly 10 years on the executive staff of the American Nurses Association.

At WSNA, Huntington provided leadership that resulted in membership growth and fiscal stability for an organization representing more than 17,000 registered nurses in Washington state. She is a champion for safe staffing, quality patient care and social justice for the underserved.

Huntington, who received her bachelor’s of science in nursing and master of nursing degrees at the University of Washington, has announced her plan to retire her position at WSNA this month. She possesses a unique ability to educate legislators and influence public policy, creating a positive impact on health care in our state and plans to continue to her work on these issues.

King County Nurses Association is a professional organization of registered nurses, committed to promoting healthy communities through education, advocacy and outreach. Founded in 1903, KCNA has more than 4,400 members, representing nurses from a variety of specialties and settings.
