Kent students have the chance to participate in eight different reading skills programs this summer.

Washington State University, Center for Distance and Professional Education is hosting the program for ages four to adult. Tuition and materials fees vary by program level.

Early summer session begins the week of June 19 and a late summer session begins the week of July 23. The program states that reading gatherings for younger students build comprehension and students learn the phonics and fluency skills they need to become strong readers.

Programs for older students and adults are geared toward improving comprehension and study skills, vocabulary, and speed reading. The skills taught in the classes reinforce the importance of reading for pleasure and developing a lifelong love of books.

For more information about the reading programs or to register, call 888-201-2448, Monday-Thursday 7 a.m.to 7 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m.to 1 p.m.
