One man caused quite a disturbance on a recent morning in downtown Kent as he reportedly yelled at people outside a church and a restaurant, stared down police officers and walked out in the middle of the street.<\/p>\n
Officers arrested the man for investigation of disorderly conduct after he stood in the southbound lane of Second Avenue South at about 10:30 a.m. May 5 and caused a driver to have to go around him, according to the police report.<\/p>\n
Police first came across the man at about 8:50 a.m. after a report of someone yelling at people at Kent Lutheran Church, 336 Second Ave. S. When an officer showed up, the man began to approach him in an aggressive stance. The officer pulled out his Taser and told the man to leave the property. The man walked away.<\/p>\n
A bit later, two officers in a patrol vehicle saw a man walking toward them at West Gowe Street and Second Avenue South. The man stared at the officers and when they drove off he made a gun sign with his right hand and acted like he was shooting at them.<\/p>\n
At about 10:30 a.m., officers received a report of a man harassing customers near the north entrance to Maggie’s on Meeker restaurant. It turned out to be the same man in the earlier reports. Two officers called for an additional unit before approaching the man because of his previous aggressive behavior.<\/p>\n
Officers watched the man as he walked out into the southbound lane of Second Avenue into the path of a vehicle, whose driver turned to avoid him. The man then walked away.<\/p>\n
Police found the man a bit later at South End Fellowship, 321 Third Ave. S. Officers arrested the man without incident. He told police he was, “nothing but a slave.”<\/p>\n
Man punches wife in vehicle<\/strong><\/p>\n Officers arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly punched his wife in the face during a dispute in a vehicle at about 9:36 a.m. May 6 in the 25600 block of 104th Avenue Southeast.<\/p>\n The woman came to a police substation, 25635 104th Ave. SE, to report her husband had attacked her, according to the police report. Officers also talked to the husband outside the substation.<\/p>\n The woman said they argued about their teen son and their marriage. She said her husband then talked badly about her sister, so she said if he’s going to talk badly about her sister, he should look at his mother. The husband then allegedly backhanded her with a closed fist to the mouth.<\/p>\n The husband told officers they had argued and that he hit his wife and she hit him back. They have been married 18 years.<\/p>\n Couple steals from store<\/strong><\/p>\n Police arrested a man and a woman for investigation of third-degree theft for allegedly taking numerous items at about 2:35 p.m. May 5 from the Fred Meyer store, 10201 SE 240th St.<\/p>\n A loss prevention officer at the store saw the man and the woman take items off of shelves and put them in their pockets, according to the police report.<\/p>\n The man, who had a backpack with him, reportedly took items worth $519 and the woman stole items worth $199. The items included diapers, other baby products, condoms and other personal care items.<\/p>\n The couple said they needed items for their young child and couldn’t afford to pay for them. The woman had theft warrants out of Covington, Tacoma and Renton. The man had an indecent exposure warrant out of Renton.<\/p>\n The man and woman each initially gave false names to police. Officers cited and released the woman so she could watch the child, who was 2 or 3 years old. Officers transported the man to the city jail.<\/p>\n Man hits girlfriend<\/strong><\/p>\n Officers arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly punched his girlfriend and held her to the ground during a dispute at about 2:21 a.m. at a house in the 700 block of Fourth Avenue North.<\/p>\n The woman told officers they had come back home from dancing and her boyfriend apparently became jealous of her female friend that had returned home with them, according to the police report.<\/p>\n The man asked the friend to leave, which she did. But he continued to argue with his girlfriend, punched her in the cheek and threw her to the ground near the doorway of the home. He told police he tried to break up an argument between the two women.<\/p>\n The man also said he was afraid his girlfriend would get a knife to attack him, so he held her down.
