Capital Expense raced to a big early lead and cruised to a four-length victory Friday in the featured Stella Artois Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.

Ridden by Rocco Bowen, Capital Expense splashed six furlongs in 1:09.29 on a sloppy track and paid $7.80 as third choice in the wagering. Robbie Baze is the winning trainer for owner L D’ Rado Thoroughbreds of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Hustled to the lead in the opening strides, Capital Expense set fractions of :21.79, :44.14 and :56.19, opening a four-length lead into the stretch, and was not threatened in the final furlong.

A British Columbia-bred 4-year-old by Scots Pine, Capital Expense is 2-2-1 in 12 career starts with earnings of $25,158. The gray gelding’s previous victory was a 40-to-1 upset vs. maiden special weights two years ago at Hastings Racecourse.

Only the High Road, ridden by Leonel Camacho-Flores, raced nearest to the winner throughout and was easily second best, and Rally Cap Rudy overcame an awkward start to finish third. Parker’s Behr Cat and Party for One rounded out the order of finish.
