Amazon Fresh is moving its warehouse operations later this year to Kent from Bellevue.<\/p>\n
Amazon will run its grocery delivery service out of an 150,000-square-foot facility at 20202 84th Ave. S., aka the East Valley Highway.<\/p>\n
“Due to the redevelopment occurring in Bellevue, we are relocating our Fresh operations to Kent where we are excited for the technology and investment we’re making in the new facility,” said Amazon spokeswoman Ashley Robinson in an email last Friday. “We remain dedicated as a company to the region and to our employees through this transition.”<\/p>\n
Amazon is leaving the site that is part of the Spring District, a 36-acre mixed-use urban neighborhood between the Bel-Red corridor and State Route 520, east of downtown.<\/p>\n
REI, based in Kent, announced last year it will move its headquarters to an 8-acre site in the Spring District. REI hopes to make that move in 2020.<\/p>\n
Robinson didn’t have a specific figure but said the Amazon warehouse will employ hundreds. <\/p>\n
The move to Kent will occur in the next few months.<\/p>\n
“All eligible Amazon associates will be given the opportunity to transfer to the new Kent facility or transfer to one of our more than 70 fulfillment centers in the U.S.,” Robinson said.<\/p>\n
Amazon in 2016 opened an 800,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Kent near South 212th Street and 59th Place South, property previously owned by Boeing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
