Terra Korve, 14, served as a page in the state Senate during the week of March 6, the ninth week of the 2017 Legislative Session.

Sen. Karen Keiser, D-Kent, sponsored Korve’s week in the Legislature.

“Terra was a great asset to the team this week,” Keiser said. “I hope she enjoyed learning about the Legislature and look forward to her future visits to Olympia.”

During their week at the Capitol, pages learn about the legislative process while assisting senators and staff. They hear lectures from guest speakers and attend page school where they create their own bills in a mock committee setting. Korve proposed legislation regarding body cameras for police.

“I really liked making my own bill,” Korve said. “I enjoyed hearing other people’s opinions.”

Pages have many responsibilities during the week that take them all around the Capitol campus and give them access to places restricted to the general public. Their short journeys give the pages the opportunity to meet and speak with many people.

“It‘s a great opportunity, once in a lifetime,” Korve said. “It’ll look great on a resume.”

Korve is in the eighth grade at Renton’s Nelson Middle School. She can’t wait to tell her friends about her experience as a page.
