Linea Shockley and Derek Van Clement of Kentridge High School have been named the March Fine Arts\/performing Arts students of the month by the Rotary Club of Kent.<\/p>\n
Shockley has been involved in Kentridge productions for three years and worked as a feature dancer in \u201cFame,\u201d \u201cMack and Mabel\u201d and \u201cThroughly Modern Millie.\u201d She will also have a lead role in Kentridge\u2019s spring production of \u201cHigh School Musical.\u201d<\/p>\n
When school\u2019s out, Shockley continues to perform, joining At The Ridge\u2019s theater production of \u201cThe Music Man\u201d this past summer as Gracie, the mayor\u2019s youngest daughter.<\/p>\n
Shockley is also a former member of the Chatelaine Dance Team and was an officer in her third year with the group. She is also a member of the Kentridge Choir and is looking forward to a trip to New York City to perform \u201cRequiem\u201d at Carnegie Hall.<\/p>\n
After she graduates, Shockley is planning to attend Western Washington University where she hopes to major in either physical therapy or ultrasound technology.<\/p>\n
Van Clement has been in the school\u2019s drama program since his sophomore year and member of the choir all four years at Kentridge and said the performing arts have always been a part of his life.<\/p>\n
Off stage, Van Clement keeps a busy schedule, participating in the track and swim programs at school as well as a scouting program run by his church.<\/p>\n
He is also a member of the Running Start program and credits it with helping him with his after school plans. Van Clement is on his to way to graduating high school with his Associate\u2019s degree and has been accepted into Phi Theta Kapa, an honor society for two-year college students.<\/p>\n
He has been accepted at Brigham Young University Provo and will attend the fall\/winter track before serving his two-year mission for his church.<\/p>\n
When he returns, Van Clement plans on majoring in electrical engineering with a musical theater minor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
