For the Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Starting this summer, the King County Road Services Division is planning to make several safety improvements to a section of Southeast Covington Sawyer Road, which connects the Lake Sawyer community with Highway 18 near Covington and Kent.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n A project open house is planned 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Grass Lake Elementary School Library, 28700 191st Place, Kent.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n To help reduce collisions on this stretch of road, the county will:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022 add a two-way left-turn lane from 179th Avenue Southeast to 181st Avenue Southeast;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022 realign the intersection with 179th Avenue Southeast;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022 create paved shoulders; and<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022 install lighting and guardrail in certain places<\/p>\n<\/p>\n An online project map shows the improvements planned for the area. State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) review information is on the project website and comments will be accepted through 4:30 p.m. March 6.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The road will remain open during construction, but users should expect delays due to lane closures during non-commute hours. When one lane is closed, flaggers will help maintain a consistent flow of traffic.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Crews will post advance warning signs 10 days before construction begins this summer.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
