More than 200 Kentridge-area performers from many diverse backgrounds stepped it up for Stayin Alive! Dance for Heart – an entertainment-filled charity event that supported the American Heart Association on Friday night.

The sixth annual show at a packed Kentridge High School Performing Arts Center raised $5,000 for the AHA, according to Denise Wiskow, a sports medicine teacher, coach and Yoga Club advisor at Kentridge who has been directing the show since its inception.

“It was a great opportunity for all students to show their talent and to work together as a team to raise heart disease awareness to the community,” Wiskow said. “The performers practice for months, and the show grows bigger every year. … This show brings all different cultures and all of the dance groups together at Kentridge. What a great way for all of the performers to bond.”

The entertainment lineup included performances from the student-portrayed Bee Gees; the Chatelaines; Sparkles Cheerleaders (special needs kids); gymnastics and multicultural dancers from K-pop to hula; the Yoga Club; Steppers and Ballers; Folklorico; the Little Charger Preschoolers; break dancers; and others.

The program was part of the school’s devotion to Heart Health Month.
