A family of five adults and four children were displaced but no one was injured at a house fire early Friday afternoon in the 3900 block of Cambridge Court on the West Hill in Kent.

The fire was first reported at 12:30 p.m. as smoke coming from a window, according to a Kent Fire Department media release. The incident was upgraded to a residential fire when the residents, who arrived home to find the smoke, also saw flames through a downstairs window.

Firefighters from the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority and South King Fire and Rescue responded to the call and were able to quickly extinguish the fire that apparently started on the first floor of the two-story house. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No one was home at the time of the fire. One resident suffered from smoke inhalation after standing too close to the fire prior to the fire department arriving.

Red Cross is assisting the family.
