The USA\/ASA Softball has awarded the city of Kent its highest honor for excellence in national tournament hosting.<\/p>\n

The city received the James Farrell Award of Excellence for coordination of the 2016 ASA 12-and-under girls’ Western National Fastpitch Tournament at Service Club Ballfields on July 26-30.<\/p>\n

The 22-team event attracted eight teams from Washington, eight from California, three from Oregon, two from Hawaii and one from Idaho.<\/p>\n

To attain the award for hosting a ASA\/USA national championship tournament, coordinating organizations must receive an overall rating of at least 95 on a 100-point scale from the ASA tournament representative, the tournament umpire-in-chief and the ASA national office staff.<\/p>\n

The award is named in honor of the former St. Louis ASA commissioner and national office staff member.<\/p>\n

This is Kent’s fourth James Farrell Award since 2008.<\/p>\n

Kent’s reputation and premier athletic complexes has translated into continued success in obtaining<\/p>\n

USA\/ASA national tournaments, which are awarded through a competitive bidding process two years in advance. Kent will host the 16A National Fastpitch Tournament in July 2018. It is expected to bring 130-plus teams from all parts of the United States and generate an estimated $2.5 million to the local economy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
