For the Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Kylie Huerta, a former Kentwood High and Eastern Washington University standout who completed her career at Hawaii Pacific, is a part of the world famous Harlem Globetrotters.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Globetrotters selected the 5-foot-1 point guard in its ninth annual draft Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n “When we conduct our draft, we look for outstanding athletes from different sports all over the world that exemplify the Globetrotters’ efforts to provide service, smiles and sportsmanship globally,” said Sweet Lou Dunbar, the Globetrotters’ director of player personnel. “This group of individuals embodies the skill, athleticism and showmanship it takes to be a Harlem Globetrotter.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Huerta was a first-team All-PacWest Conference selection and league tournament MVP in leading the Sharks to a 25-5 record and the program’s second NCAA Division II tournament berth.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Covington native averaged 15 points, seven assists and 1.4 steals per game as a senior, while shooting a blistering 42 percent on 3-pointers and 86 percent from the line. She also pulled down nearly five rebounds per game, good for third on the team.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Huerta was a four-year letter winner out of Kentwood. A prolific scorer, she averaged over 18 points per game both her junior and senior years. She was selected to the 4A All-State honorable mention squad in 2011.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n As a senior she was ranked among the top 110 point guards in the nation, according to ESPN Hoopgurlz.com.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n She helped Kentwood capture the school’s first-ever Class 4A state championship in 2009, and led the Conquerors to the quarterfinals in 2010.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Huerta played three seasons at Eastern Washington, seeing action in 90 games with 28 starts. During the 2012-13 season she averaged 29.2 minutes a game while scoring 7.3 points and getting 2.7 rebounds. She put up 15 points, including three triples, against Washington in the opening round of the WNIT in March of 2013.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Huerta then transferred to complete her collegiate career at Hawaii Pacific.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Harlem Globetrotters are celebrating their 90th anniversary, continuing a world famous tradition of ball handling wizardry, basketball artistry, and one-of-a-kind family entertainment that continues to thrill fans of all ages.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
