Former Kentwood High School stars Matt Hague and Austin Voth recently made winter moves impacting their Major League Baseball careers.

The Minnesota Twins signed Hague, 31, a first baseman and third baseman, in late December to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Hague, a ninth-round draft pick in 2008 out of Oklahoma State University by the Pittsburgh Pirates, appeared in 30 games with the Pirates. He played in 10 games with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2015.

Last year, Hague appeared in 30 games with the Hanshin Tigers of Japan’s Central League. He’s expected to provide corner infielder depth for the Twins.

The Washington Nationals added Voth, a right-handed starting pitcher, to their 40-man roster in November. Voth, 24, is considered one of the Nationals’ best pitching prospects. He posted a 3.15 ERA last year for Triple-A Syracuse and had 133 strikeouts and 57 walks in 157 innings.

The Nationals drafted Voth in the fifth round in 2013 out of the University of Washington. Voth could make his major league debut in 2017.
