Rylan Toth made 26 saves to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 3-0 shutout of the Tri-City Americans in a Western Hockey League game at the ShoWare Center on Saturday night.<\/p>\n
The T-Birds now have a nine-day break for the holidays, returning to ice on Dec. 27 against the Spokane Chiefs at 7:05 p.m. at ShoWare.<\/p>\n
Seattle (16-13-2-1) took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Jarret Tyszka at 6:06 of the second period. Ethan Bear kept a Tri-City clearing attempt in at the right point. Bear passed the puck to Tyszka who skated into the slot. Tyszka beat Tri-City goalie Rylan Parenteau with a wrist shot over the glove.<\/p>\n
Seattle led in shots 12-11 after two periods.<\/p>\n
Sami Moilanen extended the T-Birds to 2-0 with a shorthanded breakaway goal at 5:58 of the third period. Donovan Neuls pushed the puck from the left boards to the neutral zone where Moilanen chased it down. Moilanen came down on Parenteau and beat the goalie through the legs for his 11th goal of the season.<\/p>\n
The T-Birds sealed the win with an unassisted empty-net goal by Brandon Schuldhaus at 16:58 of the third. Schuldhaus banked the puck off the left boards in the neutral zone and the puck slid down the ice and into the net.<\/p>\n
Tri-City (19-15-3-0) outshot the T-Birds 26-22 in the game.<\/p>\n
Toth is now 13-13-1-0 after making 26 saves to get his first shutout of the season.<\/p>\n
Parenteau stopped 19 of 21 shots in the loss and his record is now 11-8-1-0.<\/p>\n
