The Kent Lions and its foundation present a holiday tradition – Winterfest – at the Town Square Plaza on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The celebration – A Christmas Gift from the Kent Lions to the Community of Kent – includes outdoor family activities on Second Avenue between Meeker and Smith streets, beginning at 2 p.m.; Santa’s House; live music; blowup seasonal balloons for photo opportunities; and a refreshment tent that will be open from 3:30 to 7 p.m. and includes hot cider and popcorn provided by the Kent Lions and hot chocolate from Kent Lutheran Church.<\/p>\n

The Kent Library and its children’s librarian present a holiday reading at 3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the lighting of the 35-foot Christmas tree and the Town Square, synchronized to music. Children who attend the Holiday Story Time at 3:30 p.m. will receive a VIP ticket for seating at the tree lighting.<\/p>\n

The event is free to the public.<\/p>\n

There will be no parade this year, according to organizers.<\/p>\n

The Kent Station Santa House will be open and remain open for the remainder of the season.<\/p>\n

Local choirs and school bands will add to the ambience with renditions of traditional and contemporary Christmas hymns and carols.<\/p>\n

Media sponsors including Warm 106.9, MOViN 92.5, Rock 98.9 and AM 880 KIXI will provide activities and giveaways to guests.<\/p>\n

Winterfest is presented with the help the city of Kent, Kent Station, Kent Downtown Partnership and the Kent Library.<\/p>\n
