Gladys Ovidia Hughes<\/p>\n

12\/2\/1920 – 2\/3\/2015<\/p>\n

Gladys Ovidia Hughes was born in Minnesota to Gustuv and Ragna Matson. Gladys was the younger of two children, both girls.<\/p>\n

Gladys was very involved in her church growing up as well as excelled in school sports. After High School Gladys and three girlfriends hopped on a bus and headed for Seattle. The girls immediately found employment and rented a house together in Kent.<\/p>\n

It was in Seattle she met the handsome Ward Mitchell Hughes. They were married in August of 1946.<\/p>\n

Early in their marriage Gladys worked for Sears in Seattle in the Fabric Department, then N.W. Metals in Kent.<\/p>\n

Gladys and Ward spent most of their married life in a \u201cLittle Red Brick House\u201d on the East Hill of Auburn, Washington where she loved to sew, cook and garden.<\/p>\n

Gladys was also a very accomplished seamstress.<\/p>\n

In 1957 Gladys joined the Adina Rebekah Lodge #27. Gladys proudly served as the GRAND MATRIARCH for the State of Washington 1976-1977.<\/p>\n

While being members of the Kent Travel Club Gladys and Ward traveled extensively around the US in their travel trailer, frequently meeting at designated locations with some of the Hughes Family. A furry companion, Tom The Cat, always accompanied them.<\/p>\n

Gladys resided the last 4\u00bd years of her life at the Stafford Suites in Kent where she quickly made friends.<\/p>\n

Gladys loved her life at Stafford Suites.<\/p>\n

She looked forward to weekly Bingo, Uno, WII Bowling\u2026and loved to win. Gladys participated in bi-monthly Bell Ringing and took advantage of short destination adventures too.<\/p>\n

Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, sister, two nieces and husband Ward in 1998. Gladys was laid-to-rest beside her loving husband at Hillcrest Cemetery in Kent, Washington.<\/p>\n

Her sister-in-law Doris Hughes survives Gladys as well as five nieces and five nephews.Linda (Hughes) Seevers, Elaine (Hughes) Hancock, Debra (Hughes) Keller, Mary (Brown) Butler, Carole (Brown) Smith, William Hughes, Steven Hughes, John Howell, Carl Howell and James Brown.<\/p>\n

Gladys was a loving wife, sister and friend. All that knew her will miss her.<\/p>\n
