The Calgary Hitmen defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-1 in a Western Hockey League game Friday night in front of 5,342 at the ShoWare Center.<\/p>\n

The T-Birds travel to Vancouver to take on the Giants at 7 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n

Seattle outshot Calgary 11-4 in the first period.<\/p>\n

Calgary (7-5-2-0) took a 1-0 lead with eight seconds left in the second period on a power-play goal from Beck Malenstyn. Matteo Gennaro and Michael Zipp had the assists.<\/p>\n

The T-Birds limited the Hitmen to five shots in the second period and led 20-9 in total shots after two periods.<\/p>\n

The Hitmen took a 2-0 lead on a four-on-four goal by Jakob Stukel at 2:48 of the third period. Carsen Twarynski and Austen Hyman had the assists.<\/p>\n

Seattle (7-8-0-1) cut the Hitmen lead to one with three minutes left in the game. The T-Birds pulled goalie Rylan Toth with a faceoff in the left circle of the Calgary zone. Scott Eansor won the puck to Ryan Gropp who passed it to Ethan Bear in the right circle. Bear beat Calgary goalie Cody Porter over the glove for his fourth goal of the season.<\/p>\n

The Hitmen sealed the win with an unassisted empty-net goal by Gennaro at 18:59 of the third.<\/p>\n

Seattle outshot Calgary 8-7 in the third period and 28-16 in the game.<\/p>\n

Toth made 13 saves on 15 shots.<\/p>\n

Porter stopped 27 of 28 shots to get the win.<\/p>\n
