Holly<\/span> O\u2019Neal<\/span> of<\/span> Kent<\/span> is<\/span> one<\/span> of<\/span> three<\/span> chefs<\/span> who<\/span> will<\/span> compete<\/span> for<\/span> the<\/span> title<\/span> of<\/span> American<\/span> Culinary<\/span> Federation<\/span> (ACF)<\/span> Western<\/span> Region<\/span> Student<\/span> Chef<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> Year.<\/span> The<\/span> competition<\/span> is<\/span> at<\/span>The<\/span> Academy<\/span> of<\/span> Arts,<\/span> Careers<\/span> &<\/span> Technology,<\/span> Reno,<\/span> Nevada,<\/span> during<\/span> the<\/span> ACF<\/span> Western<\/span> Regional<\/span> Culinary<\/span> Salon<\/span> on<\/span> Feb.<\/span> 5-7.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Michelle<\/span> Stephenson,<\/span> of<\/span> Provo,<\/span> Utah,<\/span> and<\/span> Kendall<\/span> Ross,<\/span> of<\/span> Colorado<\/span> Springs,<\/span> Colo.,<\/span> are<\/span> the<\/span> other<\/span> competing<\/span> chefs.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

O\u2019Neal<\/span> is<\/span> nutrition<\/span> assistant\/cook<\/span> at<\/span> Virginia<\/span> Mason<\/span> Medical<\/span> Center,<\/span> Seattle.<\/span> She<\/span> recently<\/span> graduated<\/span> with<\/span> an<\/span> associate<\/span> degree<\/span> in<\/span> culinary<\/span> arts<\/span> from<\/span> Renton<\/span> Technical<\/span> College,<\/span>where<\/span> she<\/span> received<\/span> a<\/span> 2014<\/span> Les<\/span> Dames<\/span> d\u2019Escoffier<\/span> scholarship.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

O\u2019Neal<\/span> is<\/span> also<\/span> working<\/span> toward<\/span> a<\/span> bachelor\u2019s<\/span> degree<\/span> in<\/span> nutrition<\/span> and<\/span> culinary<\/span> arts<\/span> from<\/span> Bastyr<\/span> University<\/span> in<\/span> Kenmore.<\/span> She<\/span> plans<\/span> to<\/span> continue<\/span> her<\/span> culinary<\/span> career<\/span> in<\/span> nutrition<\/span>consulting.<\/span> O\u2019Neal<\/span> is<\/span> a<\/span> member<\/span> of<\/span> ACF<\/span> Washington<\/span> State<\/span> Chefs<\/span> Association.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The<\/span> three<\/span> cooks<\/span> are<\/span> competing<\/span> for<\/span> the<\/span> opportunity<\/span> to<\/span> represent<\/span> the<\/span> ACF<\/span> Western<\/span> region<\/span> in<\/span> the<\/span> national<\/span> competition<\/span> at<\/span> Cook.<\/span> Craft.<\/span> Create.<\/span> Convention<\/span> &<\/span> Show<\/span> in<\/span> Phoenix<\/span> on<\/span> July<\/span>15-19.<\/span> The<\/span> regional<\/span> winner<\/span> receives<\/span> bragging<\/span> rights,<\/span> travel<\/span> expenses<\/span> and<\/span> a<\/span> complimentary<\/span> registration<\/span> to<\/span> the<\/span> national<\/span> competition.<\/span> The<\/span> national<\/span> winner<\/span> receives<\/span> $1,000<\/span> and<\/span> the<\/span>title<\/span> of<\/span> 2016<\/span> ACF<\/span> Student<\/span> Chef<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> Year.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

At<\/span> the<\/span> regional<\/span> competition,<\/span> cooks<\/span> must<\/span> prepare<\/span> two<\/span> portions<\/span> of<\/span> a<\/span> main<\/span> dish<\/span> that<\/span> incorporates<\/span> chicken<\/span> for<\/span> judges<\/span> in<\/span> one<\/span> hour,<\/span> 40<\/span> minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
