Who helped build the City of Kent into what it is today?

Everyone will have an opportunity to meet 10 of Kent’s long-time residents, who laid the foundations for the thriving city Kent has become, when they are honored Aug. 16, from 1-4 p.m. at the Kent Senior Activity Center.

Called the Greater Kent Community Annual Reunion, the event is now in its 20th year, and functions to acquaint folks with the people who helped turn Kent from its old-time agricultural roots, to the thriving economic power that it is today.

The “Kent Old Timers” group, that was formed 20 years ago, has been making sure that people who lived in Kent and have given time and service the community since before the 1960s, are recognized for their contributions.

The Honorees this year are: Edward and Florence Amundsen, Jim Gonnason, Len and Dorothy McCaughan, Virginia Purdy, Al and Audrey Sells, and Charles and Fran Wilson

The celebration includes introduction or the honorees, a short acknowledgement of their accomplishments at 2 p.m. A room of school yearbooks, old Kent newspapers and memorabilia will be provided by the Kent Historical Museum. There will also be time for catching up with old friends and refreshments.
