Kent Police determined an initial call from a mother about a possible abduction of her teen daughter turned out to be a false report.

The call came in about 8:31 p.m. Monday as an abduction of a 15-year-old girl in the 26100 block of 121st Avenue Southeast on the East Hill, said police spokeswoman Melanie Robinson in a Tuesday email.

The mother reported her daughter had been taken unwillingly by two males. The mother told officers she attempted to stop the males but instead was dragged by their car.

Detectives investigated the case and upon further questioning of the mother, she admitted to lying and making up the story, Robinson said. Nobody harmed the daughter who was out trick or treating.

“It appears as though mom may have had a domestic violence situation with her boyfriend and upon police getting called by neighbors, she provided the story of her daughter being abducted,” Robinson said.

Police will refer the case to the City Attorney’s Office for review of filing a false reporting charge against the mother.
