Rita’s, whose motto is ‘Ice, custard, happiness,” will open a store this fall in Kent at the Marketplace at Lake Meridian.

“I’ve been talking to a few folks who have East Coast roots where Rita’s has been very much available and they are very excited at the arrival of this particular vendor,” said Ben Wolters, city economic and community development director, in a Sept. 6 report to the City Council. “Apparently, if you are from the East Coast, you’re dying to watch this store open. It comes with its own reputation.”

Rita’s started in 1984 in Trevose, Pa., and has more than 625 stores in 19 states. Kent will be its first location in Washington. The chain also has locations in China and India. Rita’s offers frozen treats, including its famous Italian Ice, which is made fresh daily with real fruit, available in more than 60 flavors.

“It’s the latest addition to Lake Meridian Marketplace where we have seen a lot of success in attracting new retailers and food options for Kent residents that have arrived in the region or Kent for the first time,” Wolters said.

The shopping center, which features Trader Joe’s, is at 12950 SE Kent Kangley Road. Rita’s will open next to Bartell Drugs. Rita’s is hiring staff but has not yet announced an opening date.

Rita’s, whose motto is ‘Ice, custard, happiness,” will open a store this fall in Kent at the Marketplace at Lake Meridian.

[5
["post-22545","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business
