A man reportedly swallowed more than a gram of heroin in an effort to hide the illegal drug as he pulled his car over with a Kent Police vehicle behind him.

The man told an officer he did, “a really stupid thing” by swallowing the heroin. He added he did it because he didn’t want to get caught with heroin on him, according to the police report.

A patrol officer saw a Saturn SW2 going eastbound at about 10:44 a.m. on Sept. 11 in the 800 block of West Willis Street. The officer ran the license plate of the vehicle and discovered it was registered to a man with a suspended license who had an ID card only.

After the officer pulled the driver over and ran a records check on him, it turned out the man had a King County Sheriff’s Office warrant for identity theft and a Federal Way Police warrant for attempted forgery.

In addition to the warrants, police arrested the man for investigation of tampering with physical evidence for swallowing the heroin, driving while license suspended and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers found a straw and tin foil, two items typically used by someone who smokes heroin, in the man’s backpack inside the car.

After the man told police he had swallowed heroin, the man started to act slow and lethargic. Officers took the man to Valley Medical Center in Renton where he was treated and released. But when police took the man to the county jail on the warrants, jail staff refused to admit him because they said he wasn’t fit for booking. Police then took the man to the city jail, where staff booked him.
