The Knights of Columbus Kent Council 8150 and Fr. John J. Daly Assembly 2960 raised more than $10,000 at an inaugural charity golf tournament on Sept. 16 at the Auburn Golf Course. The funds will benefit Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Kent’s Women’s Homeless Outreach Mobilization Effort (HOME) program.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Women’s HOME is a winter shelter which provides a supervised, safe environment for up to as 40 homeless women every night from November to April. Housed at Holy Spirit, the women receive a home cooked meal from parish volunteers and access to on-site showers and laundry facilities.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Catholic Community Services (CCS) facilitates permanent and transitional housing services and provides professional counseling, as well as access to medical, veteran and other social services, to women in the program.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Each year, more than half the program participants are placed in permanent or transitional housing.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
At its monthly pancake breakfast on Oct. 9, the Kent Knights of Columbus presented CCS Director Bill Hallerman with a check for $10,516, which will be used to help operate the shelter.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
This year, 56 golfer took part in the tournament. Next year’s tournament is planned for Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Auburn Golf Course.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
