In response to the (June 26) article Kent Police plan crackdown on illegal fireworks: What an asinine non-solution to the fireworks issue in Kent our City Council members are sticking together on.

As a resident, I’m supposed to call 911 each time I hear bomb go off the whole week prior and including the Fourth? Get real. In years past, the bombs go off repeatedly for hours on end. Our local police are going to play cat and mouse trying to figure out who is blowing them off, and where they might be by the time the police show up? And those who are setting off illegal fireworks are going to hang around after they’re done so they can get a fine?

Councilman Jim Berrios says, “I’d hate to think that someday we will talk about eliminating fireworks on the Fourth of July.”

Well, guess what Mr. Berrios? There are many residents who hate to think we have to endure this nonsense for a week prior and all day on the Fourth! The Fourth of July is about a lot more than blowing off fireworks. How about we focus on that?

I personally have far better things to do than spend my time on the phone to 911 for a ‘plan’ that is ludicrous. As a 22-year Kent resident, this is the first year I’m vacating my home with my animals on the Fourth.

Our council has repeatedly allowed more than I’m going to endure on the Fourth, and now residents are supposed to hit redial to 911 every time we hear a bomb go off? And tell them what? “A bomb just went off. I don’t know quite where, or who did it, nor do I know where they might be when the police arrive.” But call anyway?

Council members, you are nincompoops! When you run for re-election, do not leave your ridiculous political ads on my phone, because I will not be voting for anyone on this council again.
