400 block of Jason Avenue North has died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Three detectives involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave, a routine procedure in officer-involved shootings, according to a Kent Police media release on Thursday.

Detectives were at the home to serve a search warrant related to a suspicious death in August at the residence.

“We know at this time that Kent detectives, accompanied by a patrol officer, made contact with the suspect, who was armed with a handgun,” according to a police statement. “The officers fired shots and the suspect was hit.”

The 38-year-old white man was airlifted to Harborview. No detectives were injured. Police believe the man lived at the house. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has not identified the man.

“We were there to serve a search warrant to retrieve computers and documents relating to fraudulent activity,” police spokesman Jarod Kasner said in an email about the connection to a suspicious death in August.

“This is an ongoing investigation and the Kent Police Department is providing as much information as it can to give an understanding of what has taken place,” according to the media release.

A Valley Investigative Team, led by Auburn Police, will take over the case because it involved Kent officers.

Police did not release how many shots were fired or how many shots hit the man.
